My Kind of Music

On the twelfth night of Christmas...

Were you there? What a show! What a night!
Michael made his return to recording with style. If he was at all nervous about this night it didn't show. I had expected to use Michael's own line about being 'back in business', but it was more as if he had never been away.

This was an unforgettable night. Michael is his old self, is still the consumate professional and even looks fitter and trimmer. As an entertainer Michael was outstanding, involving the audience even more than usual and the atmosphere in the audience was one of total love & support. I can think of no other performer that could have taken Michael's place that evening.

As to the show itself, it looks good. They've tinkered with the set a little but have left the game itself pretty much alone so you still have 'Pop Props' and the 'Musical Family' end game with a jackpot of £16,000. Was it won on this, the first night? I'm not saying. You'll need to watch the show in early February to find out. Of course, the popular 'My Kind of People' is still a part of the show too, making this an excellent showcase for Michael's abilities.

Due largely to the extraordinary nature of the occasion recording this one show ran well over time. But, for me, the night didn't finish there...

In Michael's dressing room after the show I was lucky enough to be able to congratulate Michael personally - and take a few pictures.

By rights it should have been a nerve racking experience - imagine, me in Michael Barrymore's dressing room! However Michael has a way of putting people at ease that is rare in anybody, let alone a multi-award winning celebrity.

It was a fantastic night. A brilliant show and the chance to tell Michael just how much he is loved by his fans.
