Bob Martin

As Barrymore returns in the comedy set in the back-biting
world of TV, Boyd Hilton reintroduces Bob and his colleagues

Timmy
(Marshall Lancaster)
Professional life: Timmy is the downtrodden dogsbody of the Quickfire staff. Quite exactly what his role is remains a bit of a mystery, but he does seem to tap away at his computer which is maybe some kind of research. His prospects aren't helped by buying Bob a pair of musical socks for his birthday.
Personal life: A pale, shy, nervous lad, Timmy triumphantly overcame his geeky image by getting on very well with last year's guest Dani Behr. But he's really better off with his nice, normal girlfriend, Monni.
Vinnie
(Keith Allen)
Professional life: Bob's right hand man, gagwriter, confidant and the bloke who has to warm up the studio audience, Vinnie is frustrated by his lot in life. Desperate to escape the light-entertainment ghetto, Vinnie tries to break into the world of trendy comedy panel games this year.
Personal life: A committed slut, Vinnie's used to a life of one-night stands with any girl who shows up at the stage door. Now he's in a sort-of relationship with colleague Beverley. But he can't bring himself to stay the night.
Bob Martin
(Michael Barrymore)
Professional life: An all-round TV light entertainer of the old school, Bob is the host of gameshow Quickfire in which members of the public team-up with celebs like Eddie Large and Claire Rayner. He's not to be confused with Michael Barrymore, though. Bob is nowhere near as big a star.
Personal life: Not exactly an expert when it comes to stable personal relationships, he was married once, but it didn't last long. Now Bob keeps details of his private life secret. Though it's quite probable that he just doesn't have one.
Greg
(Denis Lawson)
Professional life: The producer of Quickfire, Greg is a super-smooth operator. He's the only one who really knows how to handle Bob's fragile ego, using his encyclopaedic knowledge of Bob's psychological flaws and self-esteem issues to keep him on a tight rein.
Personal life: He's a wonderfully camp, flamboyant old queen with a nice line in extraordinary three-piece lavender suits and finely-honed gay banter, but there doesn't seem to be much action going on between the sheets.
Beverley
(Tracy-Ann Oberman)
Professional life: She books the celebrity guests on the show, which means dealing with all kinds of rampant egomania. Spunky, fiery and occasionally too honest for her own good in a world which values insincerity above all else, Beverley won't take any crap. But she's not averse to sucking up to the boss if needs be.
Personal life: In the past, she hasn't been reluctant to show the celeb guests a good time, but now she's shacking up with sex-crazed unrefined lad Vinnie, entirely against her better judgement.
