My Favourite Hymns at Christmas

Broadcast on Christmas day, 2000

Christmas dinner was served a little later than usual in my house this year. The reason was, of course, this programme in which Michael talked to John Stapleton about his early career and his days growing up in Bermondsey where he was known by his nickname of 'Bones' Parker.

Michael revealed many details of his past which may have come as a surprise to viewers expecting a My Kind of Hymns type of show.

This is the first time that Michael has spoken so candidly on television about his past, his present and his hopes for the future and after watching this it would be a cold heart indeed that did not wish him all the very best for the years to come.

Michael's favourite hymns were:

  • The Holly And The Ivy.
  • Abide With Me.
  • Nearer, my God To Thee.
  • Just A Closer Walk With Thee.
  • Jesus Wants Me for A Sunbeam.
  • Silent Night.
